“Vagalume” is a work that lives on the threshold between design and fantasy. Commissioned for an architect—founder of the lighting store Vagalume—the piece was born as a luminous symbol: a tribute to light that breathes, pulses, and gently fades away, much like the natural cycle of life.
Its body was 3D printed, but the artist's touch delicately restores its realism: the wings and legs were handcrafted, with textures and proportions that return an organic character to the insect. At the tip of its body, phosphorescent paint applied to the firefly's "lantern" creates a quiet magic—its glow is revealed only when the ambient light goes out, reminding us that there is beauty in the dark and energy in repose.
The sculpture is housed within a glass dome, which protects and simultaneously showcases a small internal ecosystem. Inside, driftwood, dried leaves, natural sand, and other eco-friendly materials form a balanced scene between the human and the natural, as if time had stood still to preserve that luminous moment.
More than a decorative object, Vagalume is a metaphor for inner light—for the delicacy of existence, for the glow that persists when everything around darkens.
An invitation to contemplation. A reminder that nature still knows how to illuminate us.
